Kalidescope Kicks Off!

The classical, trad, jazz and contemporary extravaganza is back with a colourful night this September.


The 10th Season Launch will take place on Wednesday 5th September, with performances from Scottish harpist Maeve Gilchrist, the RTÉ ConTempo Quartet and the series “Featured Artist” for 2018/2019, baroque music specialist and recorder player, Laoise O Brien. 

Maeve Gilchrist and the ConTempo Quartet will perform the Irish premiere of Gilchrist's 2018 piece "Red Pastures", which draws inspiration from the iconic Beckett passage in the novel Watt.

The ConTempo Quartet will also perform Haydn's Op.76. No.1 string quartet and an extraordinarily meditative work by Co Down-born composer Deirdre McKay, entitled “Mr Shah Stares to the Heavens”. 

Maeve Gilchrist will round off the evening with a solo harp trad - fusion set, for which she enjoys world renown. 

Kalidescope was founded by violinist Cliodhna Ryan and cellist Kate Ellis, ten years ago. It runs on the first Wednesday of every month at the Bello Bar in Dublin and regularly sells out with admission for just 100 people. (It is now curated by violinist Karen Dervan and cellist Lioba Petrie)
